Manuilov The purpose of the work is to consider the process of the emergence of American trumpet pedagogy in the 19th century. The scientifi c novelty of the article lies in the consistent presentation of the history of pedagogy and the main methodological provisions of early American methods (G. Prentice, H. Dodworth, S. Winner, J. White, M. Arbuckle). The emergence of the fi rst professional music educational institutions dates back to this stage, but individual private lessons and practice in various orchestras remain dominant. Techniques for playing the trumpet appeared situationally, most often in connection with the need to quickly and effectively train cornetists and introduce them into orchestras. As methods of performance, the “schools” themselves arose according to the model and under the infl uence of developed European manuals, primarily J.-B. Arbana. Most systems currently have little practical application and attract attention as the initial stage in the development of the American trumpet teaching system. However, most methods demonstrate a systematic approach to teaching, which includes the formation of knowledge of elementary music theory, performance skills (staging, breathing, sound production, articulation, techniques and means of performing expressiveness), refl ect the evolution of the educational and methodological repertoire for the trumpet. In particular, the so-called “pressure-free systems” (S. Winner, M. Arbuckle), which have been used for quite a long period, are of interest. Based on the foregoing, it was concluded that American schools of trumpet playing have suffi cient independence, because they are designed, among other things, for independent development, undergo evolutionary changes and refl ect the methodological thoughts of musicians of the 19th century.
