The Creation of the Chinese Violin
During the Early Stage
of the Formation of New China |
Zhao Taotao
In the 1930s and 1940s, violin music became a fi eld for the creation of professional music by Chinese composers. One of the obvious features
is that a signifi cant portion of the creation of violin music is occupied by national folk music. After the establishment of New China, violinists,
composers, and other musicians, represented by Ma Sicong (马思聪), continued to base their creations on various styles of folk music and created
numerous works with distinctive folk musical colors. Most of the violin music works of this period are characterized by liveliness and brightness
in style and mood, which well refl ects the country's rise and the positive and optimistic attitude of the people. This article will provide a general
analysis of violin music works at the beginning of the establishment of New China. Through the study of historical background and music creation,
we will understand the development and progress of European orchestral music represented by the violin in China in the mid-20th century.
Keywords: Chinese violin works, Chinese regional folklore, Chinese composers, violin, nationalization, musical creativity.
