On the Problem of Meaning Formation in the Late Period of Robert Schumann’s Work (on the Example of the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1) |

The article is devoted to the problem of evaluation of the late style of R. Schumann, which still retains its relevance. Its content is aimed at confirming the unquenched genius of the composer in the last period of his work. The object of attention is the process of meaning formation in the First Sonata for Violin and Piano. An analysis of this work made it possible to put forward a hypothesis about the appearance of a new code in Schumann's late style, which makes it possible to understand the deep basis of the content of music - its inner plot. It becomes the motive of hopelessness of expectation, which determined the specifi cs of musical romanticism only in the second half of the 19th century. The meaningforming role of this matrix code is considered by analyzing two parameters of the composition: the processes of intonation and form-forming development. The dramatic perfection of the embodiment of the internal plot, which was two decades ahead of Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, is another proof of the disputability of existing judgments about the extinction of the genius of the late Schumann.
