The First Violin Concerto by Nikolay Roslavets: Paradoxes of Style Identity |

The article looks into the First Violin Concerto of Nikolay Roslavets as an example of the practical use of the author’s doctrine, proclaiming a new methodology of composition. The analytical channel is predetermined by the selected problem – the research of the musical form in correlation to its contradictory prototype. According to the object of reorganization that became I. Brahms’ Violin Concerto, we consider the correspondences and discrepancies between the two opuses in accordance with the external and internal compositional parameters. The discovering of those and other evidence pick up the dialectical connection between rejected and nascent texts, which, in turn, reveals the paradoxicality of Roslavet’s creative views. The issue is complicated by some textual interpolations, which make it possible to draw a conclusion as to the discursive nature of a musical utterance. In our opinion, the author using these techniques introduces an element of polemics into the composition, thereby openly declaring his right to identity.
