Farizet Gilels-Khutsistova: she was one of the first professional Ossetian musicians |
T.E. Batagova
The year 2020 marks the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Ossetian Opera Studio at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. The Studio’s activity belongs to one of the little-studied pages of the history of Ossetian academic music. The article is devoted to the work of Farizet Almahsitovna Gilels-Khutsistova (1924–1998), the first Ossetian woman who became a student of the Conservatory’s composition Department, a pupil of V.A. Bely and V.Ya.Shebalin. Analyzes the romances of F. Gilels-Holschovoy written by her during the period of study at the Conservatory. Two extant romances by f.Gilels-Khutsistova — "A-lol-Lai" and "I’m not afraid of death" on the poems of K.L. Khetagurov — are connected by close genetic ties with the national artistic tradition. On the basis of archival documents, memoirs, diary entries, a portrait of F. Gilels-Khutsistova is recreated as a versatile gifted person, a life partner of the great pianist E.G. Gilels.
Keywords: Farizet Gilels-Khutsistova, ossetian music, Moscow Conservatory, Ossetian opera studio, chamber vocal music, the concepts of "Life"–"Death".
