This article is one of the first references to the peculiarities of the stylistics and composition of the "Small Requiem". This work belongs to the early period of Tavener’s work. The objective of the research is to consider the stylistic features of the "Small Requiem", the peculiarities of its structure, composition, thematicism, texture, choral techniques. The author also analyzes the main aspects of the composer’s choral writing using this work as an example. In the process of researching the work, features were identified that will find their implementation in the later works of Tavener. In the study, the author paid special attention to polyphonic techniques that are used in the composition. The Requiem is written in the canonical Latin text; his musical language is on the border of tonal and atonal music.
