Lomonosov and Pasternak in Marburg: Roman Lvovich’s opera docu-fantasy |
G.V. Zadneprovskaya
The article deals with the characterization of a special type of opera, called «docu-opera». The basic principles of composition and musical dramaturgy of the opera by the modern Moscow composer R. Lvovich «Marburgskij schet» are analyzed. The libretto is based on actual events from the lives of two prominent figures in Russian science and culture – genius M.V. Lomonosov and the outstanding writer and poet of the 20th century B.L. Pasternak, which determines the belonging of this work to the type of docuopera. The unifying element is the old University of Marburg, where Lomonosov studied in the 18th century, and after about 200 years Pasternak repeated the path of the Russian educator. The belonging to the type of docu-opera is indicated by the composer himself on the title page. Its idea is conveyed in the music of Lvovich through the preservation of established facts from the background of the main characters in the libretto, as well as through the insertion of musical and poetic quotes and allusions that largely determine the musical dramaturgy of the «Marburgskij schet».
Keywords: modern Russian opera, docu-opera, theory and history of music, «Marburgskij schet», opera musical, Roman Lvovich.
