In the class of Boris Ivanovich Kulikov |
V.K. Polyansky
The article discusses the pedagogical principles and choral methods of the famous choral conductor, professor of the Moscow Conservatory Boris Kulikov, analyzes his repertory preferences, describes episodes from the history of the Moscow Conservatory of the 1960s. Boris Kulikov, being the rector, contributed to the return of the building of the Synodal School, its restoration and the opening of the Rachmaninov Hall of the Conservatory. During classes he devoted a lot of time to setting the hand and manual technique; it was worked out, so that the “hand sang”, there were beautiful smooth movements corresponding to what happens in the texture of the choir, and the touch to the sound was worked out. Special attention was paid to the rhythmic basis. The cornerstone principle of Kulikov was that the conductor, as a pianist, should be able to articulate a stroke, show staccato, marcato, legato, soft or hard attack of sound. Different types of gestures were practiced: wrist, elbow, from the shoulder. Summing up, it is obvious that Kulikov worked out a set of techniques with students in the same way as instrumentalists do.
