N.A. Govar
The subject of this article is to review the piano miniatures in the works of composers of the first Russian avant-garde. This genre because of its dominant features – laconism and vivid imagery – most adequately conveys the spirit of the experiment, inherent in the works of N. Roslavetz, A. Mosolov, Popov, V. Deshevov, J. Schillinger. Their short piano pieces, represent a kind of «creative laboratory», in which the new compositional and stylistic devices polished, characteristic of individual style of each author. Works of the 1920s, which were created in a period of relative political freedom, are the most revealing in terms of its stylistic originality, demonstrating the wide range of creative searches of the first Russian avant-garde composers, have not been developed due to the growing ideological pressure in the country.
