Music and Time Annotation << Back The Educational Practice partimento and its Russian Refl ection Z.Z. Mityukova The article examines the educational practice called partimento which was actively used in Neapolitan orphanage-conservatories. It originated in the XVIIth century and spread to Europe in the XVIII–XIX centuries. This practice was aimed at developing of keyboard improvisational skills. It has played a great role in shaping the special music educational system without knowledge of which it is impossible to understand the essence of the musical works composed in that period of musical history. The paper introduces the reader to the special aspects of partimento existence in the Russian music of the XVIIIth century related primarily to the activities of the Italian composers hired for the Russian court, and Russian professional composers` acquaintance with partimento tradition during their internship in Italy and studying in Russia under the leadership of Italian musicians.
