Musical Code as a Means of Personifi cation of Images of William Blake in the Instrumental Music of Dmitry N. Smirnov |

The article considers one of the ways the personification of images of British artist William Blake in instrumental music composer Dmitri Smirnov – the use of music encoding. As examples Smirnov’s opus «Abel» and String Quartet number 8 («Hell»), in which for each of the characters, embodied in the music system is assigned a specific musical codes. The theoretical basis of this paper was easy to L.V. Savvina and V.O. Petrov, on the theory of musical code and synthesis of arts in music theory of the twentieth century. It is noted that the work of the composer with scenic source becomes the personification of the way of work, which not only enriches his compositions, but «open» to the listener that could be hidden in a simple instrumental compositions, and even in the picture.
