Music and Time Annotation << Back Beethoven’s op. 110 of in G. Gould Interpretation in the Context of Vanguard Culture Yu.A. Monastyrshyna In this article, we set ourselves the task to analyze the performance of Guld op. 110 by Beethoven, placing it in ever-widening historical and cultural context, where the real interpretation appear including in the «optics» of avant-garde art, and to whom belonged to the great canadian. First of all, in the late Beethoven’s opus Gould attracted by the unusual, sometimes strange sounding piano. The specific «face» of piano is attributed to Beethoven’s deafness and the pianists tried to remove out the «roughness» of works, «veiling» the textured emptiness. Canadian pianist doesn’t hide Beethoven’s «strange», but makes the latter subject to interpretation and aesthetic admiration. This interpretation gives us an occasion to reflect how Gould «thought» the piano, because in relation to his art can talk about the whole philosophy of the piano, and the understanding of this philosophy is impossible to fully comprehend the essence of his art.
