The Concept Rasa, or about Poetics of Nine Conditions in Musical Culture of South Asia |

The article is devoted to a category rasa – fundamental in the theory and practice of all South Asian classical art, one of the most ancient and simultaneously steady in the Indian musical culture. According to its basic positions, any composition (theatrical, poetic, musical, picturesque) has for an object immersing the person in a special mental and aesthetic condition (empathy), staying in which, it is released from usual communications with daily occurrence and identified with universal space. The basic are given nine modus of rasa which have developed during evolution of the Indian musical art: Shringara (rasa of erotic love), Hasya (rasa of contempt), Karuna (rasa of compassion), Raudra (rasa of anger), Vira (rasa of heroics), Bhayanaka (rasa of fear), Bibhatsa (rasa of disgust), Adbhuta (rasa of surprise) and Shanta (rasa of tranquility). The theory rasa reflects complex influence of art on the person, fixes deep bases of recognition and the most thin ways of activization of human psychophysiology.
