Article is dedicated to the founders of the American minimal music. Their creative ideas formed in the context of a rebellious
counterculture of the 1960s and reflected its most important features. Influenced J. Cage and figures of pop-art Young and Riley
experimented with genres of the happening and performance, breaking the traditional boundaries between art and life; composers
have passed through passion religious teachings and meditation practices of the East, studying the intricacies of the raga
performance and features of tabla and shenai in India; conducted psychedelic experiments to consciousness, while actively used
in his compositions new electric instruments, high level of dynamics and lighting effects; came to the discovery of a new method of
organizing musical material - to repetitive technique, built on a potentially endless repetition patterns. The present article makes
it possible to trace both in the experimental atmosphere of the counterculture of the 1960s developed the process of forming the
concept of minimal music, formed in the work of Young and Riley.
