Music and Time Annotation << Back Augustus Strindberg and his Play «A Dream Play» in Ingmar Bergman's Creativity Е.А. Kalinina The article is devoted to the Ingmar Bergman’s activity in the theater. This area is less well known than his work in the film industry, but generate considerable interest. The director turns to a wide range of works in the world literature. Some plays were staged several times. Among them – «A Dream Play» and «Ghost Sonata» of August Strindberg. This author was Bergmans alter ego in a mentality and perception of the world. He played a significant role in his artistic developing. Bergman works with the same music as Strindberg and apply to his principles of using musical themes. Nevertheless, there is a difference in the Bergmans and Strindbergs work with musical material. Strindberg liked associate music with the mind of his heroes, while Bergman put together his own ideas with the instructions of the playwrighter. It results in a bright and deep conception of the works. As an example of working with musical material we analyze two versions of the play «A Dream Play».
