Music and Time Annotation << Back Inganno in Frescobaldi’s Poliphony L.L. Gerver The paper deals with the inganno technique in G. Frescobaldi’s music. The system of the solmization and handling of three hexachords (natural, hard and soft), offered the composer the opportunity to modify the structure of soggetti in ricercars, fantasias and other genres of poliphony through the technique of inganno: a theme is repeating without the conservation the interval steps, but with invariable names of the hexachord syllables. By using inganno, one of the most important methods of his polyphonic technique, Frescobaldi created an extremely complex type of fantasia and ricercare. Keywords: G. Frescobaldi, inganno, polyphony.
