Music and Time Annotation << Back Alfredo Casella in His Struggle for New Italian Music. M. Lebed Formation and spreading of the new music in Italy became the main creative project of Italian composer Alfredo Casella. This project dominated all the spheres of his diverse activity: composition and performance, arrangement of musical societies and festivals, journalistic and musicological works, and teaching. Casella attached special attention to music journalistic: his articles put in Mass media were meant for public reading, that is why they were easy to understand, impressive, and often bellicose in style. Being romantic fighter in his soul, Casella was definitely sure that the new music filled with genuine latin spirit is to change Italian melodrama that had been considered to be the only implementation of Italian music before that.
