Stravinsky’s «Petrushka» and the Folk Theatre |

The article covers the influence of the Russian folk theatre shows on the creation of the «most Russian» Stravinsky’s ballet. It also deals with some peculiarities of Petrushka character created by Stravinsky and shows how this character is connected with West European tradition which was very popular in Russian art at the beginning of the 20th century. The author shows how Igor Stravinsky and Alexander Benois used mythological folk symbolism and how the ballet images and music atmosphere were reflected in Anna Akhmatova’s «Poem Without a Hero».
