Music and Time Annotation << Back Edward Patlayenko’s interpretation of «Каlevala» and «Kanteletar» S.V. Sintsova, N.P. Khilko The paper covers three works of the modern Karelian composer Edward Patlayenko – Symphony-cantata «Kanteletar» for soprano, baritone and orchestra, «Symphonic runes» based on «Kalevala» and «Book-Song» for French horn, English horn and piano. In these pieces the author interprets «Kalevala» theme in different ways. The genre synthesis of symphony and cantata in «Kanteletar» enables him to create an image of the ancient northern country. In «Symphonic runes» picturesqueness dominates because Tamara Jufa’s graphic works based on «Kalevala» become a program source of Patlayenko’s work. In «Book-Song» the composer creates a symbolical image of the great Book.
