Music and Time Annotation << Back Melodic characteristics of the First and Fifth modes of the Znameny chant (on example of Sunday Sticheras of Octoechos) Masyuk E.А. The paper deals with the principles of melodic organization of the 1st and 5th modes of the Znameny rospev (chant). The problem of correlation of these modes is one of the most essential problems for the study of the mode system (glacy). For the first time their melodic, modal, rhythmical and compositional characteristics are studied as a whole in connection with the hymnography poetics peculiarities. The complex approach to the problem is taken so the methods of source study, textual study, melodic, poetic and musical semantic analysis are applied as well as the analysis of musical form.
