Ben Winsworth Kings of Endless
Space: a Mental Release
in Sergeant Pepper's Club
of Lonely Hearts. Essay |
A.N. Lipov
The first conceptual album in the history of popular music "Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and the eighth studio album of English rock
band "The Beatles", released on May 26, 1967, were once highly praised by critics for their innovations in songwriting, production and graphic
design, for bridging the cultural gap between popular music and high art, and for reflecting the interests of modern youth and counterculture.
"Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is primarily an album that gave rise to "hopes for progress in pop music," the release of which became a
defi ning moment in pop culture in the 1960s, heralding a "summer of love," while the audience's perception of the album reached the full cultural
legitimization of pop music and recognition of the pop environment as a true art form. In this essay, which is a scientific translation from English,
the author examines Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club musical album "The Beatles" from the perspective of such disciplines as musicology,
ethnomusicology, history, sociology, literature, social psychology and cultural theory.
Keywords: pop music research, pop culture, music journalism, "The Beatles".
