Trumpet in the Works of American Composers of the Second Half of the 20th – Early 21st Centuries V.N. Manuilov The purpose of the work is to characterize the national solo repertoire for trumpet, created in the second half of the XX – beginning of the XXI century. the article describes a number of artistic works of various genres – sonatas, concertos, compositions of small forms. Unlike previous stages, the modern American trumpet repertoire is expanding significantly thanks to the activities and requests of organizations such as the National Association of Music Schools and the International Guild of Trumpeters, as well as orders from leading performers and concert organizations. The analyzed material allows us to conclude that the repertoire for the works refl ects two main trends in American academic music of the modern period. The fi rst is the creation of avant–garde trends (including minimalist and electronic trumpet compositions), the second is the creation of compositions that are maximally accessible to the general public, and therefore written in a neoclassical or neo–Romantic style; the use of jazz stylistics is also important. Despite the fact that modern compositions vary in artistic and technical level, they are united by the fact that (in most cases) they were created by professional composers, taking into account the requirements of customers. Consequently, we can talk not only about quantitative, but also about qualitative improvement of the repertoire in comparison with previous periods, about its development by expanding the imaginative palette, using a new group of expressive and technical means, which include non-traditional methods of sound production, color techniques, etc. It is possible to draw a conclusion about the formation of the national repertoire.
