Titan of the Baroque Era
(on the 340th Anniversary of Handel's Birth) |
A.I. Demchenko
The purpose of this article is to try to make a full-length review of the creative legacy of George Frideric Handel, while being as laconic as
possible. The cornerstone of this article is the fact that his music belongs to a number of national schools of composition in Europe (Germany, Italy,
England, and to some extent France). It is stated that the German "accent" has most clearly manifested itself in various genres of instrumental
music. The Italian "accent" has found its full expression in a huge array of works in the opera seria genre. And, finally, the English "accent" has
become decisive in Handel's highest artistic achievement, which is his oratorios.
Keywords: the universalism of Handel's work, genres of instrumental music, opera seria, oratorio.
