Music and Time Annotation << Back On the Problem of Classical Music Metadata Su Zongmao The article is devoted to the study of the issue of transformation of classical music studies in the modern era, saturated with digital technologies. A number of key issues of classical music metadata research, development of public music metadatabases are considered, examples of creation of publicly available cultural products that could contribute to the dissemination and preservation of musical knowledge, improvement of processes of organization and search of information are analyzed. It is noted that metadata, which is a set of information about musical works, are divided into several levels and types. The basic level of metadata includes the title of the work, composer, performer, date and place of performance, which facilitates basic identifi cation and search. In addition, metadata includes information about the publication of the work – year of publication, publisher, edition number, which is of great importance for research in the fi eld of musicology and for studying the history of creation of works.
