Lipov In 2012, the centenary of the birth of American avant-garde composer John Cage (1912–1992) was marked by a huge number of concerts and symposiums dedicated to his work..Given the laudatory nature of these events, we often forget how controversial he was in his life, and that his recognition as a legitimate composer is still far from universal. Cage's reputation and infl uence within the music community followed a winding path, marked by several distinct generational shifts in attitude towards him. In the translation of a scientifi c article, the author attempts to discuss the evolution of Cage's perception from the point of view of a composer who came of age in the 1970s, during the fi rst wave of musical innovations Cage, based on American psychologist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's theory of the fi ve stages of grief, which represents a research model to account for the infl uence and trajectory of the composer cultural impact on contemporary musical culture.
