Manuilov The purpose of the work is to consider the periodization and main prerequisites for the formation in the 17th–19th centuries. American performing school of trumpet playing. The scientifi c novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the fi rst time in Russian musicology, a periodization of the history of development has been proposed and the prerequisites for the formation of a performing school of trumpet playing in the USA have been considered. The formation of a performing school of trumpet playing in the USA is a long and step-by-step process. The periods of development of trumpet performance do not coincide with the generally accepted periodization of the musical art of the United States as a whole, because they are determined to a greater extent by national-political rather than inherent musical-cultural factors. The main prerequisites for the development of wind performance in general and trumpet performance in particular were the historical, cultural and musical trends in the development of American trumpet performance in the second half of the 19th - fi rst decades of the 20th century, which can be formulated in the following provisions: increasing interest in orchestral performance and its mass distribution ; the formation of local orchestras, into which European performers assimilated, infl uencing the level of performing culture of American orchestra members; the predominance of semi-amateur compositions, which determined the features of the score presentation of a large group of works, which became the basis for the selection of virtuoso soloists; intensive modifi cation of tool designs and production development. Studying the features of the development of American brass art in the 17th–19th centuries. allows us to conclude that this was a multi-stage process, containing several stages of evolution and which served as the basis for the further formation and fl ourishing of the American trumpet performing school in the twentieth century.
