Music and Time Annotation << Back Six Humoresques by Jean Sibelius. Dramaturgical and Compositional Peculiarities Yu.G. Krasko This article provides a detailed analysis of Jan Sibelius' Six Humoresques for Violin and Orchestra (Op. 87 and 89) and a brief characterization of his violin heritage. Biographical information from the composer's life reveals his particularly reverent attitude to this instrument and emphasizes the importance of violin music for the formation of a complete creative portrait of Sibelius. The author of the article focuses the readers' attention on the manifestation in the cycle of Humoresques of the main characteristics of the composer's creative style - the peculiarities of his modal, structural, harmonic and melodic thinking, as well as his orchestral writing. The continuation in the Humoresques of the compositional and technical achievements of Jan Sibelius' most famous work – the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D minor (Op. 47) – is revealed. It is concluded that the Humoresques have been undeservedly neglected on Russian concert stages.
