Music and Time Annotation << Back Kazan Cloth Settlement and Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin. To the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of the Russian Bass E.L. Yakovleva The article is devoted to the personality of Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin (1873-1938). In order to complement the creative portrait, the memorable places of the bass were chosen as the object of research. The main methods were biographical and analytical, thanks to which signifi cant spaces in the artist's life were determined. The methodology of D.N. Zamyatin made it possible to introduce two concepts in relation to the biography of F.I. Chaliapin – the place of genius and the genius of place. As a result of studying the autobiographies and articles of the bass, biographical works about him, the Kazan Cloth Settlement was identifi ed as a place of genius, where the future singer lived for the fi rst seventeen years of his life. The study of biography made it possible to trace the features of the formation of a creative personality within the framework of space. Kazan Cloth Settlement became the place of Chaliapin universities. Despite the poverty of the family and the negative aspects of life seen, it was in Kazan that the future singer heard Russian songs, saw an original festive culture, and joined theatrical life. Kazan became the place of his creative formation: young Fyodor Ivanovich not only sang in the church choir here, but also tried himself on the theater stage. In addition, Kazan and its Sukonnaya Sloboda became a place of (symbolic/real) intersection of the future singer with people important to him – A.S. Pushkin, M. Gorky and M.V. Petzold. Thanks to the study of the biography of F.I. Chaliapin, the mechanism of transformation of the place of birth into the place of genius is described, and the importance of the bass in the Russian and world cultural landscape gave the right to call Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin himself the genius of the Cloth Settlement.
