Music and Time Annotation << Back Horst Jankowski is a Star Phenomenon in the Musical Art of the German Democratic Republic B.G. Gnilov, M.L. Novikova The relevance of the research is characterized by the fact that the concept and the term pop-symphony orchestra and, consequently, the symphonic music adjacent to it, were put forward and designated mainly (if not exclusively) in the national cultural tradition, primarily in connection with such a well-known orchestral collective as the pop-symphony orchestra of the Central Television and the All-Union Radio of the USSR. The orchestral collective of Horst Jankowski is somewhat isolated in the general orchestral array of the direction we are interested in in terms of its stylistic specifics. The stylistic profile of the orchestra is recognized and identifi ed not only by the name and surname of the chief conductor-artistic director, as happens in most cases, but by one small but important detail: the orchestra is isolated as a "dance". The compositions for which the Horst Jankowski Orchestra is famous are not written within the framework of well-known popular dances, but, more importantly, in a piquant rhythmic movement that carries a certain sharpness, incendiary texture and rhythmic intrigue.
