Music and Time Annotation << Back The Category of Sound and Music in Traditional Musical Terminology India and China T.V. Kartashova, A.V. Novoselova The article presents the main terms related to the concepts of "sound" and "music" in the musical civilizations of India and China, which are considered in the context of traditional philosophical, religious and aesthetic concepts, due to the specifics of the cultures of these regions themselves. On the basis of similar musical and philosophical views of India and China, a correlation is established between the terms gandharva and yue (inyue), sangeet and inyue, nada and sheng. Along with this, there are also differences in the interpretation of terms translated into Russian by the word "sound" (nada, sheng, yin) and entailing traditional Indian and Chinese ideas about the origin and functioning of sound, about the purpose of sound and music. As one of the most important parameters testifying to the similarity of Indian and Chinese musical and philosophical concepts, the idea of sound as a powerful creative energy developed and reflected in these cultures is put forward. Attention is also focused on music as a means of communication with higher spheres, as an instrument of influence on individual and social consciousness, a means of harmonizing a person and relations in society, as well as the space between heaven and earth. Another important parameter of similarity is the awareness of responsibility when working with sound, which is necessary from the cosmogonic and cosmological points of view of sound reproduction accuracy.
