Music and Time Annotation << Back Moors in the Spanish Organ Art M.A. Moiseeva The paper covers the image of Moors in the Spanish Renaissance and Baroque organ art. The Arabs who occupied a large part of the Iberian Peninsula in the 8th century were expelled in 1492. However in Spanish culture the figure of the Moor remains for a long time one of the stable images symbolizing the confrontation between Islam and Christianity which ended in Spain with the victory of the latter. Moors praising the Christian God appeared in the form of decorations on organ pipes, mascarons and polychrome figures on organ fronts and inspired Spanish composers to write organ batallas.
