Sviridov's sensitivity to the trends of the time has led to a natural transformation of his artistic system since the 1960s. Moreover, in some cases, he was able to give a brighter implementation of new trends, the main carriers of which were then young authors. One of the important trends in music of the second half of the twentieth century was the promotion of the urban element, and the brightest symbol of the powerful self-affirmation of the NTR (scientific and technological revolution) belonged to Sviridov – this is the central image of his music for the film «Time, forward!». Together with his young colleagues in the «Russophilism» of the 1960s, Georgy Sviridov widely expanded the horizons of ideas about the facets and manifestations of the national, which resulted in a movement called the «new folklore wave», and again he managed to create a landmark work of this artistic direction – it was the «Kursk Songs». By the end of the 1970s, a remarkable trend emerged, which received the name neo-Romanticism, and the most revealing example of it in Russian music was Sviridov’s choral concert «Pushkin’s Wreath». Over time, the spiritual principle became more and more profound in the composer’s work, and on this wave in his work since the mid-1980s, many works written on religious texts have appeared (one of them is the choral cycle «The Ineffable Miracle»). Consequently, the last testament of the outstanding master is perceived unambiguously: it is the spiritual principle that is the defi ning vector of the national ethos.
