Music and Time Annotation << Back Conducting Gesture as a Means of Artistic and Non-Verbal Communication of a Military Conductor V.N. Sukhorukov The article is devoted to the phenomenon of conducting gestures, which form a professional gestural dialect in non-verbal communication. The gestures of a military conductor can be divided into three groups - emblems (gestures that carry information independently, forming three subgroups: gestures-icons, gesturesindexes, gestures-symbols), illustrators (gestures that comment on musical speech that sounds in the minds of musicians before its direct performance), regulators (gestures that control performance, regulating the actions of orchestra musicians). The gestures of a military conductor differ from those of a general conductor by the manifestation in them of the topos of heroism and battle, as well as by the emphasized accentuation of the rhythm of step and marching.
