The Evolution of the Viennese Waltz in the First Half of the XIX Century |
Guo Qing
The article discusses the development of the Viennese waltz, which took place in several stages. The first of them is associated with the name of Franz Schubert, who opened new paths in the field of everyday dance. The waltz suites he created in many respects anticipate and prepare the appearance of the Viennese waltz. The second stage is the time when the “classical” structure of the Viennese waltz was established, which was finally fixed in the work of Johann Strauss Sr. and Joseph Lanner. The third is the heyday of the genre, which we owe to Johann Strauss-son, who used all the finds of his predecessors, enriched the waltz with new content and creatively rethought it.
Keywords: Viennese waltz, lendler, suite, domestic dances, Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss Sr., Josef Lanner, Johann Strauss Jr.
