The article is devoted to the piano work of the St. Petersburg composer Sergei Mikhailovich Slonimsky. In the center of attention are the most famous compositions of the author, opuses, the most indicative from the point of view of the piano style, in the context of the performing interpretation. The article discusses the origins of the piano style of S. Slonimsky, primarily the performing style, and later the composer style. The research is based on the words of the musician himself, presented in his autobiographical and research works (such as "Burlesques, elegies, praises in despicable prose", essays on pianists and romantic composers, "Melodika"), interviews (published in the collection "Sergey Slonimsky – interlocutor" or published in video materials), studies of major musicologists. The author reveals the infl uence and authorial implementation of the traditions of the Russian piano school, the romantic style, where the author's styles of the F. Chopin, J. Brahms and E. Grieg become integral.
