Muzio Clementi and His Role in the History of Piano Art |
S.V. Sultanova
The article is devoted to the work of the famous Italian composer, pianist, teacher and entrepreneur of the late 18th – early 19th century Muzio Clementi. During his long life, Clementi wrote a large number of works in various genres for orchestra, piano and violin. A large place in Clementi's piano heritage is occupied by collections of instructive pedagogical pieces. Such works include "Piano School", "Preludes and Exercises" and Etudes "Gradus ad Parnassum". Almost all works were published during the composer's lifetime. Many of them were reprinted by different publishing houses up to our time. The genre of etudes plays a particularly important role in Clementi's work. Many etudes are more like plays in which certain tasks are subordinated to artistic content. The traditions of Clementi were continued by his students – Kramer, Field, Moscheles, Czerny and others, who also wrote studies and exercises. The article deals with the most striking piano compositions by M. Clementi – etudes, sonatas and sonatinas. At the same time, parallels are drawn with the works of other classical composers.
Keywords: Muzio Clementi, etude, sonata, sonatina, pianist, teacher, composer.
