On the Synthesis of Azerbaijani Traditional Music and Some Features of the Jazz Style on the Example of "Postlude" by Composer Elnara Dadasheva |
L.F. Aslanova
The presented study is devoted to the analysis of the organ piece "Postlude" by the Azerbaijani composer Elnara Dadasheva. The study of this work made it possible to determine the following characteristic features. The main source of the style of this work should be considered Azerbaijani mugham, jazz, the synthesis of these two musical phenomena – jazz mugham, Azerbaijani music of the oral tradition, as well as the individual composer's style of Elnara Dadasheva. At the same time, different components of the analyzed work demonstrate a different degree of influence on them of the listed sources. Thus, in the structure of Postlude, the clear influence of jazz-mugham is noticeable, since in its cross-cutting development, reminiscent of improvisation, the cross-cutting structure of mughams and jazz improvisation are easily determined as a support. The melody of this work is especially close to the intonational vocabulary of Azerbaijani mughams, while the harmonic language clearly relies on the style of ashug melodies. The variety of techniques revealed in the texture of the play testifi es to the same variety of sources in this element of the work. At the same time, the dominance of polyphonic methods of development acquires the main signifi cance here. And this is a vivid example of demonstrating the features of the composer's letters from E. Dadasheva. It is also easy to see the origins of jazz-mugham in such important components of musical speech as the metro-rhythmic basis and fret support. And if the metrorhythm becomes an expression of many features that are equally characteristic of both jazz and mugham, then the modal side, on the contrary, reveals the possibility of a deep synthesis between the blues mode, which at first glance is distant, and the Azerbaijani modal system. Thus, “Postlude” by E. Dadasheva is an original fusion of the individual features of the composer's style, features of the national music of the oral tradition and jazz mugham.
