Music and Time Annotation << Back Specifics of Creation and Performance of Saxophone Works by A. Glazunov Le Siyu The aim of this study was to analyze the specifics of creation and performance of saxophone works by A. Glazunov and test the experimental method for the analysis of musical expression means. The central methods used within this research were the method of textual analysis of saxophone works written by A. Glazunov and interpretational and information evaluation methods applied to study the composer’s creativity peculiarities. The materials on which the study was based were such works of A. Glazunov as “Quartet for Four Saxophones”, “Quartet for Four Saxophones (B-dur)”, and “Concerto for Alto Saxophone and String Orchestra (Es-dur)”. The results of the conducted investigation revealed that the means of musical expression of A. Glazunov are characterized by different indicators throughout the performance. Besides, it was unveiled that A. Glazunov had an exceptionally innovative view on the creation and performance of saxophone performances. At the same time, measurement of musical expression means (dynamics, timbre, intonation, intensity, and frequency) demonstrated the indicators characteristic for the performance of his musical pieces on saxophone. The practical signifi cance and further research perspectives of this study are seen in the possibility of applying the tested methodology when identifying and analyzing means of musical expression in the works of different composers to study the peculiarities of creation and performance of musical pieces for both saxophone and many other musical instruments.
