Music and Time Annotation << Back Chamber Concerts of Charles Valentin Alkan I.A. Davydova the Subject of the research is the work of the undeservedly forgotten French composer of Jewish origin Charles Henri Valentin Alkan (1813–1888) and, above all, his early cycle of 3 chamber concertos op. 10 (1833–1837). Like many of Alkan’s works, his chamber concertos have not yet been studied in such detail by Russian and foreign musicologists. The article deals with a detailed holistic and harmonic analysis of the cycle. The analysis of Alkan’s chamber concerts uses an analytical research method. The cycle of 3 chamber concerts analyzes both the texture and harmony, as well as the features of the musical form. In the description of the history of the cycle, there is a method of biographical reconstruction. An important aspect is the comparative method of research – the texture features of Alkan’s chamber concerts are compared with the texture of the composer’s works in other genres, as well as with Chopin and Tchaikovsky concertos. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the work of Charles Valentin Alkan is little studied, especially in Russian musicology. Alkan’s chamber concertos Op. 10 were analyzed in the Chapter on the composer’s early work in Veniamin Yegorovich Smotrov's dissertation «Charles Valentin Alkan: personality, aesthetics, creativity». From the foreign musicological literature, the cycle of 3 chamber concertos by Alkan Op. 10 was analyzed in Lindmann’s article on piano concertos of the XIX century as well as in the monographs of Ronald Smith and William Alexander eddy in English and the work of Vincenzo Maltempo «The Strange case of Charles Valentin Alkan» in Italian.
