From the History of the Second World War. German Musical Life During National Socialism |
B.G. Gnilov, M.V. Fedorov
The article describes historical phenomena, events and processes that took place in German musical culture in the period from 1933 to 1945. During these years, the national socialist leadership of Germany paid great attention to the formation of a new cultural policy. In the artistic and stylistic priorities, the ideals of «heroic German realism» and «steel romanticism» were put forward in the main place. An attempt is made to examine how the direction of development of Opera, Philharmonic and entertainment music in Germany changed during the years of the fascist dictatorship. Under these conditions, the repertoire and concert practice of orchestras, Opera houses, and music salons were reoriented to support the main Nazi landmarks. The work names composers, conductors and musicians who found themselves on different sides of the ideological confrontation.
Keywords: musical culture, Germany, ideas of national socialism, repertoire policy, mass culture.
