Music and Time Annotation << Back Gudochnaya Musical Terminology Based on Materials From Russian Written Monuments of the XIII–XIX Centuries A.V. Ustugova This publication contains a historical analysis of the terms used in Russian musical vocabulary to refer to players on the Gudok. The study is based on the materials of Russian written monuments of the XIII–XIX centuries (administrative and spiritual literature, alphabets, lexicon and word-locks, songs, epics, sayings and proverbs). The study of musical terminology allows you to determine the time of the appearance of a tone in Russian instrumental culture. As a result of the research, we identified a group of musical terms used in certain historical periods for the name of the player on the Gudok. Since the XVIth century, the term «Gudochnik» appeared. In the XVIIth century, the terms «Gudec» and « Predgodnik» expand their meaning and begin to apply to the performers on the Gudok. In the Petrine era, the terms «Gudec» and «Predgodnik» are being ousted and the term «Gudochnik» is finally affirmed. During this period, the old lexical system of musical terms is destroyed and a new one is gradually being created, which has survived to our time.
