At the origins of creativity: Concerto for violin and orchestra by B. Britten |
A.A. Vasilenko
The article is devoted to the Violin Concerto by the English composer Benjamin Britten. The Concerto, like other instrumental works, was written in the early period of the musician's activity and for a long time was in the shadow of genres with a word – operas and vocal cycles. Despite this fact, the concert contains the main unchanged constants inherent in the composer's handwriting throughout the entire further creative path: the thematic spectrum (anti-war ideas and the theme of denouncing evil); baroque, classical and romantic style guidelines; the theatri-cal nature of thinking; the ability to create bright and convex musical images within a multi-layered musical text. Of particular interest is the story of the appearance of this opus in Britten's work, asso-ciated with a crucial time in his life – an attempt to emigrate to America and the realization of his duty to his native England. The analysis of English-language sources, which are little known in our country, allowed us to recreate this point in sufficient detail. The article presents the history of creating meaningful, drama-toricheskie and stylistic aspects of the Violin Concerto of Britten.
Keywords: Britten, violin Concerto, classical, theatrical thinking, Passacaglia.
