‘Partes’ Concertos by Kolpensky: What Kind of Music was the Favorite in 18th Century? |
A.V. Bulycheva
The article is devoted to choral concertos for 12 voices by the Russian composer of the first half of the 18th century – Joann (?) Kolpensky. At that time, they were highly valued and copied by the compilers of «partes» collections much more often than concertos by other authors (with the exception of the works by Vasily Titov). In our time, Kolpensky's music is unknown, none of his works have been published or performed. There are no biographical data about the composer. This article attempts to reconstruct some of the circumstances of his life. The main attention is paid to the concerto on the words of Psalms 3, 37, 120 and 149 «Raise my eyes to the mountains». The score of this work is restored by the author of the article. On its basis, the methods of polyphonic technique characteristic of the Baroque era, which were in the Arsenal of the composer, are revealed.
Keywords: Russian Baroque, «partes» concerto, attribution, Psalms, choral score, polyphonic technique.
