Music and Time Annotation << Back Principles of Azerbaijani folk songs use in the new genre – «Fikret Amirov’s Symphonic Mugham» S.M. Mamedli This article is devoted to the study of the problem of interaction between composer and Azerbaijani folk art on the example of using the folk songs “Evleri var Khana Khana” and “Ay Gadasy” in the “Shur” Symphonic mugham of the prominent Azerbaijani composer Fikret Amirov, who is the ancestor of this genre. In the musical language and the formation of the creative style of Fikret Amirov, as well as many other Azerbaijani composers, the processing of folk songs plays a kind of creative laboratory role. The author of the article reveals the peculiarities of the composer’s style, his singular attitude to the European genre and national music, which was able to masterfully synthesize two cyclical and complex musical genres – symphony and mugham. Following, Niyazi, Suleiman Aleskerov and many other prominent composers of Azerbaijan turned to the Symphonic mugam genre, in whose work the use of folk song melodies is characterized by features derived from symphonic traditions.
