Music and Time Annotation << Back At the intersection of the musical traditions of China and Europe: flute in the work The Bright Sun Shines over the Tien Shan Mountains by Huang Huwei Lian Yicen The article is devoted to the implementation of the folk traditions of Chinese flute music in contemporary compositional works on the example of the work of one of the leading contemporary authors of China, Huang Huwei. Huwei is not only an outstanding composer, but also a famous teacher. His work is extensive and includes works of various genres, forms and scales, both Chinese and European musical art. However, one of the main themes of his music is the theme of the nature of his native country. In the writings of Huwei dominate the images of Chinese landscapes, rivers and mountains. One of the most striking examples of the combination of traditional Chinese and European in modern flute art of China is Huwei’s The Bright Sun Shines over the Tien Shan Mountains (The Sun Shines in the Uigur Mountains). Melodic, rhythmic, tempo patterns, sound range, playing methods and articulation demonstrate the character of folk music in Xinjiang (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China), the work describes the mountains of this region. This work attracts the attention of performers and listeners for its brightness, richness of folk colors, is an example of a brilliant concert play, which reveals the characteristic imagery of Chinese folk music, the technical capabilities of a bamboo flute, luxury and the magnificence of its timbre. In this regard, virtuoso cadences are of particular value. The piece has gained immense popularity and has become the hallmark of Chinese flute works.
