Pierre Boulez, Andre Malraux and French cultural policy at the turn of the 1950s and 60s |

The article describes the situation in the cultural policy of France at the beginning of the second half of the XX century and the episode that took place in the late 1950s, when Boulez proved to be an oppositionist to the current government of Charles de Gaulle. The views on the organization of musical life in France at that time are considered from the point of view of Boulez and his opponent, a famous writer and poet, a participant in the Resistance, the Minister of Culture André Malraux. It also discusses the principles of territorial policy followed by Malraux and de Gaulle, as well as Boulez’s ideas for optimizing the activity and staff of symphony orchestras in France.
