Music and Time Annotation << Back Television opera in G.C. Menotti’s work L.B. Khanina G.C. Menotti’s work not only brought an American voice to the operatic stage, but also reached new audiences through radio and television. In this article we examine two operas specifically composed for television «Amahl and the night visitors» (an opera for children) and «Labyrinth». Our analysis is focused on specific characteristics of the genre. We highlight a number of composition techniques that are utilized by Menotti in order to make his operas approachable for the audience. A variety of directing techniques, his cinematic thinking and a range of dynamical methods used in the TV version of the operas are shown in this publication. Keywords: G.C.
