Music and Time Annotation << Back Music of Nepal: synthesis of traditions of different cultures T.V. Kartashova, V.D. Kartashov The article examines the original musical culture of Nepal in its historical development. The multi-ethnicity and multilingualism of the country had a profound impact on its musical art, which is a complex conglomeration of foreign traditions and cultures of the peoples inhabiting this region. Attention is drawn to the exposure of the influence of the musical tradition of Tibet; the issue of the synthesis of Indian and Nepalese music is highlighted, emphasizing the penetration of North Indian systems of rag and tala into the Nepali musical language. The ethnic and religious composition of the Nepalese population is characterized from the position of the influence of the confessional situation on the formation of musical culture. The castes of Indo-Nepalese professional musicians are indicated: damai (tailor-musicians), gаine (wandering artists), huds (drums in the form of hourglasses). Information is given on religious and secular Nepalese music, represented by the communities of musicians Damai and Gаine. A special place is given to the religious and ritual music of the Nevar (chacha), musical representations of the nevarov Buddhists, traditional and classical music. Features of Nepalese court music practice, represented by the commonality of ritual singers (mangalini), are noted. Separately, the various ensembles characteristic of Nepal and their repertoire are considered, and information on Nepalese musical instruments is given. Also, the actual problems of the musical culture of Nepal and the peculiarities of the influence of modern music on the traditional repertoire and performers are characterized.
