Features of Performing Style E. Fitzgerald in a Genre of the Popular Ballad in America |
V.V. Nevalyanaya
Ella Fitzgerald is the great jazz singer who has realized herself as the performer of both jazz standards, and the American popular ballads. The genre of the American popular ballad is original and has the features. What we have got used to call the song in America is called the popular ballad. This genre, as a rule, narrates about love. The simple harmonies, a kupletny or strophe form, melodic lyrical melodies which are often constructed on sequences and melodic variation are characteristic of him. On the example of the ballad by Earvin Berlin "Isn’t This A Lovely Day" us features of individual style of Ella Fitzgerald in this genre come to light. The singer executes her on the firm attack, at the top of the voice, accurately pronouncing all words. But at the same time Fitzgerald doesn't strengthen emotion, doesn`t act as the drama actress. Her style easy and unaffected, lyrical and quiet. In popular ballads she doesn't use improvisation and doesn't complicate the author's text.
