Specifi c Genre and Typological Features of Calendar Ritual Songs of Spring-Summer Period (based on Materials of The Expeditions of St.-Petersburg Conservatory to The North-Western Area of The Smolensk Region) |
M.I. Churakova
The article describes the issues connected with the correlation of the categories "type of melody" (or tune) and "genre". In
the northwestern districts of the Smolensk Region (Velizhsky, Demidovsky, Rudnyansky districts) there are at least three types of
melody (or tunes) falling into the category of genre intersections: 1) The first one has got a verse pattern 6+6; 2) The second one
has got a verse pattern 6+6 and a refrain; 3) The third one has got a verse pattern 4+4). Each of them functions in different texts
in one area at the same time within several ritual celebrations. The tunes can obtain spring, Trinity, Kupala, harvest kinds of the
definition, which depends on the calendar date.
In this work the authors characterize the tunes from the point of view of the musical-typological singularity, and they are also analizing at its functioning in various ritual combinations. The obtained data are mapped (considering their genre specificity) and are compared with the research results which have been published previously.
